Molluscum

Molluscum Contagiosum

Molluscum Contagiosum are similar to warts, but not warts, and are caused by a DNA pox virus. They are usually pink, or clear with a central "pearly" core. They are usually very small, and are usually multiple in number, and may occur anywhere on the body. A person can spread them to other parts of their body, and to family members. Molluscum virtually always disappears within 1-2 years, but may sometimes be successfully treated in the same manner as warts. The definitive treatment is to excise them, and children with eczema may need this therapy as Molluscum can be very itchy to them.
